Working in cooperation with MITdesignX in Boston, SerenDPT has created MITdesignX Venice – a multi-year open call for ideas for creating sustainable startups that provide solutions to real-world problems.
SerenDPT (SERENissima Development and Preservation through Technology) is a Benefit Corporation based on Giudecca with a clear mission: to help repopulate Venice by supporting the creation of startups that will produce high quality jobs in the historic city.
Working in cooperation with MITdesignX in Boston, SerenDPT has created MITdesignX Venice – a multi-year open call for ideas for creating sustainable startups that provide solutions to real-world problems.
Every year the 10 best ideas are invited to participate in a free accelerator program led by MIT faculty. The program is meant to support students, professional, developers and entrepreneurs, and SerenDPT provides incentives for startups that choose to locate their headquarters in Venice, where they can contribute to repopulating the city and the lagoon area by creating high-quality jobs for young people of all ages and Venetians of any origin.
MITdesignX seeks viable ideas for startups focused on solving real-world problems and providing value to specific constituencies. This will allow the startup to be financially sustainable over the long term and to grow from a short-term project into a local small business, and from there to a full-fledged startup that scales up and creates dozens of jobs.
Your startup ideas should be expressed in a few sentences that identify:
- the problem or opportunity that your startup addresses
- your solution to solve the problem or leverage the opportunity
- what value your solution will bring and to whom
The themes of the 2022 MITdesignX Venice program are:
- Conservation and valorization of artistic and architectural heritage
- Tourism of the future: accommodations and mobility
- Water, Energy and Environment
- Tools and services for Cities and Citizens
Submissions are open from until July 8, 2022. Teams of 2-5 people can apply.
After the submissions have closed on July 8, the best 10 teams will be selected to participate in the full program, under the supervision of MIT faculty, according to the following calendar:
Bootcamp: 8-11 September 2022
Workshops: 22/23 September 2022
13/14 October 2022
27/28 October 2022
10/11 November 2022
Pitch Day: 28 November 2022
The Bootcamp and workshops will be conducted in person and in English and will take place at the H3 Factory (Giudecca 624-625 30133 Venice) in the ex-church of Saints Cosmas and Damian, headquarters of the SerenDPT incubator.
