Sixteen politicians, managers and officials of the Municipality of Venice are accused of having caused financial damage to the state of 3.2 million euros for the sale of Palazzo Poerio Papadopoli to the Singaporean magnate Ching Chiat Kwong.

Among them is the mayor of the city, Luigi Brugnaro, who is already a target in the parallel investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office, together with his collaborators Morris Ceron, Derek Donadini and former councilor Renato Boraso.

The Regional Prosecutor’s Office of the Court of Auditors notified all of them of the so-called “act of default”, which is a sort of notice of accounting guarantee that also has the purpose of interrupting the statute of limitations.

The monetary damage figure results from the estimate of value made during the Orsoni administration for the building that housed the Municipal Police, which was subsequently sold to Ching.

The first estimated value was 14 million euros, while the sale price was 10.8, just slightly higher than the new estimate made.
